System Definition U20

The U20 system size defines the structural connection between tooth and adapter in the ESCO® Ultralok® system.

Fitment:
Assignment is determined exclusively by the stamped “U20” marking on the existing part.

Reference class:
U20 is typically used on excavators in the 6–10 ton class.

Note: Machine weight or bucket width are reference values but not a reliable identification method.

Locking mechanism:
The locking device is integrated into the tooth point. Separate locking pins or hammer pins are not required by design.

Position within the Ultralok® System Hierarchy

For correct spare part identification, U20 is positioned within the Ultralok size hierarchy as follows:

U20: typical range 6–10 tons

U25: typical range 10–14 tons

U30: typical range 15–20 tons

Selecting an incorrect system size can lead to play, improper load distribution and premature wear.

U20 Tooth Geometries in Application

Depending on soil conditions and application requirements, the following tooth shapes are available:

U20S (Standard)
general excavation work

U20C (Chisel)
narrower design for improved penetration in cohesive or compacted soils

U20P (Pick)
increased penetration capability in hard material

U20F (Flare / Spade type)
wider profile for trench bottoms and finish grading

U20AP (Abrasion)
increased wear material for highly abrasive conditions

U20T (Twin Pick)
used for corner positions and ripping applications

U20 Adapter Variants & Cutting Edges

(20 mm / 25 mm)

The adapter transfers forces directly into the bucket cutting edge.
In addition to the U20 system size, the cutting edge thickness is the key selection criterion.

Typical cutting edge / lip thickness for U20:

  • 20 mm

  • 25 mm

Available adapter designs:

  • Single strap weld-on adapters

  • 1-1/2 strap variants

  • Corner adapters

  • Bolt-on adapters

Technical Identification Before Ordering

To avoid incorrect orders, please verify the following on the bucket or existing parts:

  • Is “U20” clearly stamped on the existing tooth and/or adapter?

  • What cutting edge thickness is used (20 mm or 25 mm)?

  • Which adapter type is currently installed (e.g. single strap, corner adapter, bolt-on)?

  • Which tooth geometry matches the intended application?

If unsure, the LIS® technical support team will assist you.

Machine weight alone is not sufficient for correct identification.
