Applications for excavators from 10.0 to 28.0 t
This series is matched to the 10.0 to 28.0 t machine class and designed for structured workflows in demolition, recycling and material handling.
- Selective demolition with controlled gripping, separating and placing
- Sorting mixed demolition material, concrete, steel fractions and recyclable materials
- Handling large-volume construction elements
- Handling natural stone, boulders and mineral materials
Not intended for ramming, impact, pulling or heavy levering applications outside the specified operating profile, or for use in water.
Slew ring rotation system in the 10–28 t class
All LIS® demolition and sorting grapples in this category use a slew ring rotation system.
Compared to compact rotator designs, this construction is intended for higher loads and structured demolition, sorting and loading applications. Power transmission is achieved through a hydraulically driven gear ring system.
Especially in the 10–28 t machine class, this technical distinction is relevant because visually similar grapples may be offered with different rotation systems.
Hydraulic requirements for 10.0–28.0 t excavators
The grapples in this class must be matched to machine weight, working pressure, oil flow and the available auxiliary hydraulic system.
- Open/close working pressure: model-dependent up to 320 bar
- Oil flow: model-dependent and matched to the machine hydraulics
- Rotation pressure: maximum 160 bar
Important technical note: The rotation circuit must be designed for a maximum pressure of 160 bar and protected by a pressure relief valve. This limits pressure peaks and protects the rotation motor.
Before operation, system pressure and available oil flow of the carrier machine must be checked. Recommended hydraulic oil temperature range: 20–80 °C.
Construction and wear equipment
LIS® grapples in this series are designed for continuous operation with changing materials and controlled gripping movements.
- Danfoss® hydraulic motor for continuous 360° rotation
- HB400 grapple shells
- Replaceable HB400 reversible cutting edges
- Reversible cutting edges usable on both sides
- Cutting edges with end stop function
- Slew ring rotation system
- Neutral mounting plate
Matching wear and service parts can be found under Demolition & Sorting Grapple Spare Parts.
Mounting and quick coupler systems
The grapple is supplied with a neutral mounting plate. The final mounting interface is configured by the customer or on a project-specific basis.
Depending on the adapter solution, the following systems are commonly used in the 10–28 t class:
- MS systems: MS10, MS21, MS25
- CW systems: CW20, CW30, CW40
- OQ systems: OQ65, OQ70/55, OQ80
Adapter design and configuration must consider machine weight, breakout forces and operating profile.
Maintenance and operating requirements
- Lubricate all grease points at least every 8 operating hours
- Check hydraulic hoses, bolted connections and cutting edge fasteners regularly
- Inspect reversible cutting edges for fit and wear
- Keep the hydraulic system clean and monitor filter condition
Insufficient lubrication can increase wear on the slew ring, pins and bushings.

Difference to the compact class
For machines below 9.0 t, we recommend the compact series with model-dependent rotation pressure up to 120 bar:
Demolition & Sorting Grapples for Mini Excavators 0.7–9.0 t
For the complete model overview:
Related attachments and wear components
- Hydraulic breakers for pre-breaking massive structures
- Excavator buckets for material loading and earthmoving
- Cutting edges and profiles for cutting edges and wear protection
- Undercarriage for track system components in construction site operation
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the matching mounting bracket pre-installed?
No. The grapple is supplied with a neutral mounting plate. The final mounting interface is configured on a project-specific basis.
Why is the 160 bar rotation limit important?
The rotation circuit must be designed for a maximum pressure of 160 bar. Without pressure relief, pressure peaks may damage the rotation motor.
What is the 10–28 t series intended for?
The series is intended for structured demolition, recycling, sorting and material handling in the 10.0–28.0 t machine class.
