Triple Grouser Track Shoes for Excavators

Triple Grouser Track Shoes, also known as 3-Bar Track Shoes or Three Grouser Track Shoes, are primarily used on crawler excavators. They provide smooth operation, good stability and lower turning resistance compared to single grouser and double grouser designs.

What Are Triple Grouser Track Shoes?

Triple Grouser Track Shoes are steel track shoes featuring three parallel grousers. They are mounted on track chains and form the contact surface between the undercarriage and the ground.

The triple grouser profile offers less ground penetration than single grouser or double grouser track shoes. This reduces turning resistance, improves maneuverability and lowers stress on the undercarriage during frequent steering movements.

When Are Triple Grouser Track Shoes Used?

Triple Grouser Track Shoes are commonly used on excavators and crawler excavators where stability, smooth travel and maneuverability are more important than maximum ground penetration. Typical applications include earthmoving, civil engineering, demolition, material handling and general construction work.

Different machine classes require different shoe widths and chain pitches. Narrower track shoes support precise maneuvering, while wider shoes increase ground contact area and can help reduce ground pressure on soft terrain.

Difference Between Single Grouser, Double Grouser and Triple Grouser Track Shoes

  • Single Grouser Track Shoes: high penetration and maximum traction for bulldozers and crawler tractors.
  • Double Grouser Track Shoes: balanced combination of traction, stability and maneuverability for excavators, crawler loaders and heavy crawler machines.
  • Triple Grouser Track Shoes: reduced ground penetration, smoother operation and improved maneuverability for crawler excavators.

Verify Shoe Width, Chain Pitch and Mounting Dimensions

Track shoe width alone is not sufficient for proper identification. Chain pitch, shoe thickness, bolt pattern, mounting dimensions and undercarriage configuration must match the existing track chain.

Multiple Triple Grouser Track Shoes may have identical or similar widths while being technically different. Variations can include pitch, hole spacing, shoe thickness, overall height, additional drilling patterns, asymmetric designs or machine-specific configurations.

Triple Grouser Track Shoes with Additional Drilling for Rubber Pads

Some Triple Grouser Track Shoes are manufactured with additional drilling patterns for Bolt-On Rubber Pads or special poly pads. These versions allow rubber pads to be installed on compatible steel track shoes when sensitive surfaces require protection.

Bolt pattern, mounting distances and rubber pad design must match the track shoe exactly. An overview of compatible systems can be found in the category Rubber Pads.

Asymmetric and Angled Triple Grouser Track Shoes

Certain applications require asymmetric or angled Triple Grouser Track Shoes. These designs can provide additional clearance, reduce side-loading forces during turning and help minimize stress on track chains and undercarriage components.

Such special configurations should always be verified using technical drawings, mounting dimensions and machine-specific requirements.

Triple Grouser Track Shoes for Pavers, Milling Machines and Special Equipment

In addition to standard excavator applications, certain Triple Grouser Track Shoes are used on asphalt pavers, cold milling machines and other specialized crawler equipment. In these applications, drilling patterns, pad systems, chain pitch and machine compatibility are especially important.

Compatible rubber pads for paving equipment can be found in the category Paver Rubber Pads.

When Should Triple Grouser Track Shoes Be Replaced?

Triple Grouser Track Shoes should be inspected when grouser bars are heavily worn, bolt holes become elongated, shoes are loose, bent or cracked. Worn track shoes can negatively affect machine stability, steering characteristics, ride quality and overall undercarriage wear.

Timely replacement helps prevent additional wear to track chains, bolts, nuts and other undercarriage components.

Compatible Components for Triple Grouser Track Shoes

Triple Grouser Track Shoes operate as part of a complete undercarriage system together with track chains, bolts, nuts and optional rubber pads. Related components can be found in the categories Track ChainsBolts & NutsRubber PadsBolt-On Rubber Pads and the parent category Undercarriage.
