What Are Repair Links and Individual Track Links?
Individual track links are single chain links within a track chain. Depending on the chain design, they can be used as replacement components for specific sections of the chain assembly.
Repair links are used to repair damaged or worn chain sections. They are relevant when a technically suitable repair of individual chain areas is possible instead of replacing the complete track chain.
Track Links, Repair Links and Master Links
Individual chain links are commonly referred to as Track Links. Repair components are often described as Repair Links. Depending on the chain design, connecting or end components may be referred to as Master Links, Split Master Links or End Links.
These terms are especially relevant for technical drawings, international reference numbers and undercarriage parts catalogues.
Individual Track Link, Repair Link or End Link?
An individual track link is a single link within the undercarriage chain. A repair link is intended for targeted repair of a damaged chain section.
An end link forms part of the connection system of the track chain and may be designed as a left-hand, right-hand, split or special end-link version depending on the undercarriage. Correct identification always depends on chain design and undercarriage configuration.
Verify Chain Pitch and Compatibility
Correct selection of an individual track link or repair link requires verification of chain pitch, chain design, pin-and-bushing system, master link system and the existing undercarriage configuration.
Visually similar track links are not automatically interchangeable. Differences in pitch, geometry, pin diameter or connection system can affect compatibility.
Repairing Track Chains
Individual track links and repair links are used when specific areas of a track chain are damaged, worn or require maintenance. Whether a repair is technically appropriate depends on the condition of the complete chain assembly.
In cases of heavy wear, chain elongation or damaged undercarriage components, it should also be checked whether a complete track chain or a complete track group is the more suitable solution.
Repair Links within the Undercarriage System
Repair links and individual track links are part of the track chain and operate within the complete undercarriage system together with sprockets, idlers, track rollers, carrier rollers, track adjusters and track shoes.
During track chain repairs, adjacent undercarriage components should also be inspected for wear. Individual repair links can only be used reliably when the remaining chain and undercarriage geometry are technically compatible.
Identify the Correct Chain Design
Repair links and individual track links must match the existing track chain design. Relevant chain categories include oil-lubricated track chains, grease-lubricated track chains and sealed dry track chains.
