Tilt Quick Couplers for Excavators

Tilt quick couplers with integrated rotary actuator for precise work in civil engineering and landscaping.
A tilt quick coupler clearly expands the freedom of movement of the attachment. The integrated rotary tilt drive allows attachments to be tilted flexibly.

In the LIS® range, you will find tilt couplers for excavators from 0.8 to 30 tons – available with either an MS quick coupler mount (mechanically locked) or an HS quick coupler mount (hydraulically locked).

  • Tilt Range: 180° (for excavators up to 23 t) and 134° (for heavy excavators from 23 to 30 t)
  • Safety: Integrated overload valve; depending on the version, with Double-Lock concept according to EN 474:2022 (as per manufacturer specifications)
  • Mounting Systems: Available for common MS and HS standard sizes (size 01 to 25)

Notice: Designations such as MS or HS serve exclusively for the technical identification of the mounting geometry.

System Differentiation: MS (Mechanical) vs. HS (Hydraulic)

Important for technical understanding: The rotary tilt drive itself is always operated hydraulically via the integrated rotary motor in both variants. The designations MS and HS refer exclusively to the way the attachment (e.g., the bucket) is locked to the coupler:

→ MS Quick Coupler Systems (Mechanical Locking)
The operator unlocks and locks the attachment manually using a socket wrench. Ideal for smaller excavators and construction sites where the attachment is changed less frequently. Very cost-efficient and low-maintenance.

→ HS Quick Coupler Systems (Hydraulic Locking)
The tool change is carried out fully hydraulically and safely at the push of a button from the cabin. Perfect for operations where the tool is changed several times a day. These systems feature an integrated oil feed, which minimizes exposed and failure-prone hose connections.

Size Matrix: Machine Weight vs. Mount Size

A common mistake when retrofitting is selecting the coupler purely based on the excavator's weight. The selection of a tilt coupler is always based on two parameters: the operating weight of the excavator and the required / existing quick coupler mount. These values are not always identical. Use the following guide values for typical assignment:

  • Size 01 (e.g., MS01 / HS01): Typically for 0.8–3 t (Torque: 900 Nm)
  • Size 03 (e.g., MS03 / HS03): Typically for 2–8 t (Torque: 900 to 3,200 Nm)
  • Size 08 (e.g., MS08 / HS08): Typically for 5–15 t (Torque: 3,200 to 7,000 Nm)
  • Size 10 (e.g., MS10 / HS10): Typically for 8–23 t, depending on model and mount
  • Size 21 / 25 (e.g., HS21, MS21, HS25, MS25): Typically for heavy excavators from 15 t to 30 t, depending on model, mount size, and machine configuration

Workshop Hint: Avoiding Incorrect Loading

Under-dimensioning or an incorrectly chosen mounting geometry can lead to increased stress on the rotary drive, the bearing points, and the locking mechanism. Always verify the combination of machine weight, existing mount size, and the technical data of the respective model before ordering.

Points to check before selection and retrofitting

To avoid installation problems, please clarify the following in advance:

  • Mount Compatibility: Does the selected mount size (e.g., MS08) exactly match the mounts of your existing excavator buckets?
  • Hydraulic Control Circuits: Does your excavator have the necessary free auxiliary control circuits? (The rotary motor requires oil flow; the HS locking mechanism requires an additional circuit).
  • Hydraulic Parameters: The systems are designed for use on excavators with a suitable hydraulic supply. Please refer to the data sheet of the respective model for the specific values regarding pressure, oil flow, and connection requirements.

If you have any questions regarding hydraulic compatibility or choosing the right mount size, the LIS® technical sales team will be happy to assist you.
