6 Inch Bolt-On Cutting Edges for Construction Equipment

6-inch bolt-on cutting edges are replaceable cutting edges for suitably designed excavator buckets, wheel loader buckets, dozer blades and other attachments. For the products in this category, the 6-inch designation refers to a centre-to-centre hole spacing of 152.4 mm. Correct selection requires matching dimensions, the complete bolt pattern and the specified plow bolt size.

  • Hole spacing: 6 inches or 152.4 mm centre to centre
  • Design: pre-drilled, bolt-on standard profiles with double bevels
  • Selection: length, width, thickness, hole count, end distances and plow bolt size

Replaceable cutting edges for repair and maintenance

Bolt-on cutting edges form a replaceable working edge on suitably designed buckets, blades and attachments. They are secured to the existing mounting surface with plow bolts and nuts. Provided that the base edge and mounting area are technically sound, a worn cutting edge can be removed and replaced without welding in a new edge.

For these cutting edges, 6 inches refers to the hole spacing

For the products listed in this category, the 6-inch designation describes the distance between two consecutive hole centres. The hole spacing is 152.4 mm. It must not be confused with the blade width, bolt hole diameter or specified plow bolt size.

Depending on the design, the cutting edges differ in width, thickness, hole count and bolt configuration. Identical hole spacing does not mean that two cutting edges have the same cross-section or bolt pattern.

Mounting method and application are separate characteristics

Bolt-on cutting edge describes the mounting method. Terms such as dozer cutting edge or grader blade describe the intended application. A cutting edge fitted to a dozer blade or grader moldboard may therefore also be a bolt-on cutting edge. The intended application is stated for each individual product.

Check the complete bolt pattern

Hole spacing alone is not sufficient for identification. The hole count, the distances from the outer holes to the blade ends and the specified plow bolt size must also be checked. Length, width and thickness must match the installed cutting edge and mounting surface.

On older or rebuilt attachments, the installed cutting edge may differ from the original configuration. The existing component or a reliable technical drawing of the mounting arrangement is therefore the relevant basis for identification.

Check the cross-section, base edge and installation clearance

Width and thickness determine the cross-section of the bolt-on cutting edge. The profile must match the existing base edge, mounting surface and available installation clearance. Deviating widths or thicknesses can affect contact with the base edge, the bolted connection or the intended working geometry.

Material and profile geometry

The standard profiles in this category are pre-drilled, double-bevel sections made from hot-rolled, through-hardened boron steel with a hardness of approximately 500 HB. Whether a profile can be reversed in the existing installation depends on the mounting arrangement. A double bevel alone does not confirm that the cutting edge can be reversed.

Material, hardness, bevel dimensions and other technical specifications are stated for each individual product. Specifications from a visually similar cutting edge must not be transferred to another version.

Standard lengths or cut to size

This category contains 6-inch bolt-on cutting edges in defined standard lengths. The required length must be determined from the installed component or reliable technical documentation.

For blade lengths that differ from the standard versions, see 6 Inch Reversible Bolt-On Cutting Edges – Cut to Size. The available cross-sections and plow bolt sizes are listed separately in that category.

Manufacturer-specific cutting edges

The 6-inch bolt-on cutting edges listed here are standard profiles with defined hole spacing. Matching the hole spacing alone is not sufficient to assign a cutting edge to a particular machine.

Reference- and machine-specific cutting edges are available under CAT Bolt-On Cutting EdgesKomatsu Bolt-On Cutting EdgesVolvo Bolt-On Cutting Edges and Liebherr Bolt-On Cutting Edges.

Matching plow bolts and nuts

The plow bolt size must match the bolt hole in the cutting edge. The required bolt length depends on the total grip length of the bolted joint. The nut must also be suitable for the specified bolt design.

Matching fasteners are available under Bolts and Nuts. Additional weld-on and bolt-on cutting edges are listed under Edges and Blades.
