LIS® Replacement Parts for the CAT® J460 Tooth System

The extreme heavy-duty system for excavators and large wheel loaders in the 40- to 60-ton class.
The J460 system is engineered for application scenarios where massive shock loads and extreme breakout forces push the J400 system to its limits.

LIS® carries precisely fitting J460 components (side-pin) for uncompromising continuous use in rock, demolition, and heavy quarrying.

  • Typical Machine Class: Frequently used on heavy excavators and wheel loaders in the 40–60 t class (e.g., CAT 345, 349, 352, 980, 988)
  • Locking Mechanism: Horizontal locking (side-pin) with a highly dimensioned Ø 24 mm pin
  • Warranty: Lifetime breakage warranty* on LIS® teeth and adapters

System Differentiation: The J460 Size

The J460 size is not just a "reinforced J400", but an independent system with drastically enlarged cross-sections. It is typically used wherever extreme abrasion and continuous loads are the daily norm.

Tooth tips, adapters, and locking parts are only compatible within the J460 size.

Technical Identification: Is it really J460?

Since the highest safety standards apply in these heavy weight classes, the system must be determined without a doubt. Use these reference values for identification on the old part:

  • 1. Typical J460 Part Numbers (Cast Numbers):
Common reference numbers for J460 tooth points end in "...452" (e.g., the standard tooth 9W-8452 or the rock tooth 9W-8452RC).
  • 2. Adapter Nose Dimension (Inch Rule):
As a rough technical guide, the thickness of the adapter nose for the J460 size is approx. 4.6 inches (approx. 117 mm).
  • 3. Dimensions of J460 Locking Elements:
The J460 locking pin (e.g., reference number 8E-0468) has a diameter of Ø approx. 24.0 mm and a massive length of approx. 140.0 mm. The corresponding retainer measures approx. 44.0 mm in outer diameter.

Workshop Hint: The Structural Limits of J400

A frequent mistake in heavy-duty practice is the attempt to "upgrade" an existing J400 system for rock operations by fitting heavier tooth caps. This almost always leads to deformed locking pins, worn-out adapters, or tooth loss. The J460 system solves these problems systemically: A pin with a length of 140 mm (instead of 119 mm for J400) and a significantly enlarged contact area on the adapter guarantee the holding forces required for machines in the 50-ton class.

Tooth Shapes and Adapters for Extreme Abrasion

The J460 tooth system offers maximum wear reserves and impact resistance. LIS® carries the following profiles:

To safely absorb the extreme breakout forces, LIS® carries highly robust two-strap weld-on adapters (Heavy Duty) for thick excavator cutting edges as well as massive flush-mount adapters for heavy wheel loader buckets in the J460 segment.

System Comparison: Alternatives to the J-System

Only the strongest tooth systems compete in the 40+ ton range. If your machine is not equipped with the J460 side-pin locking mechanism, you will find these established alternatives at LIS®:

What you should check before ordering

To avoid incorrect orders and fatal machine damage, please verify the following points:

  • Is the stamp "J460" or a known part number (e.g., 9W-8452) legible on the old part?
  • Is the adapter nose approx. 117 mm (4.6 inches) thick?
  • Does the locking pin have a diameter of Ø approx. 24 mm and a length of approx. 140 mm?
  • Have you added completely new locking elements (pin & retainer) to your cart?

If you are unsure, the LIS® technical sales team will be happy to assist you at any time.
