CAT® J250: system size with a broad tooth and adapter range

CAT® J250 is an individual size within the side-locking CAT® J-System. The tooth tip is pushed onto a matching J250 adapter interface and secured laterally with locking pin and retainer. Reference number, tooth profile, adapter design, locking bore and the condition of the existing interface are decisive for correct selection.

This category lists J250 bucket teeth, J250 tooth adapters and matching locking parts. The higher-level system overview is available in the CAT® J-System category; further tooth systems can be found under Teeth and Tooth Systems.

Selecting J250 tooth tips by reference and application profile

For CAT® J250, the tooth profile is a key selection criterion. The LIS® range includes several J250 designs that differ in length, penetration behaviour, cutting width and wear volume. The decisive factor is always the combination of reference number, profile and existing J250 adapter interface.

  • 1U3251: short J250 tooth tip when a shorter design is required compared with long profiles
  • 1U3252: long J250 tooth tip for general digging and loading applications
  • 9J4259: sharp or penetration profile for compacted or hard-to-penetrate materials
  • 9W8259: sharp tooth in tiger style for narrow penetration geometry
  • 1358258: double spike or twin tiger design for fractured or abrasive materials
  • 1U3252RC: Rock Chisel design in the LIS® range for rocky and abrasive operating conditions
  • 9N4252: long Heavy Duty design with increased wear volume
  • 9N4253: Abrasion design for wear-intensive materials
  • 3G8250: wide tooth form in the LIS® range for applications requiring a larger cutting or contact surface

The terms bucket tooth, tooth tip, excavator tooth and loader tooth are used differently in the market. For technical identification within J250, reference number, tooth profile, adapter interface and matching locking parts are decisive.

J250 tooth adapters: checking design and interface

J250 tooth adapters form the interface between the bucket lip or base edge and the tooth tip. This category includes several adapter designs for the J250 system, including single-strap adapters, 1 1/2-strap adapters, center adapters and left and right corner adapters.

Relevant J250 adapter references in the LIS® range include 1U1254, 3G0169, 3G4258, 3G4259 and 6Y3254. Before installation, lip thickness, base edge, bevel angle, welding situation and wear condition of the existing interface should be checked.

Play between tooth tip and adapter can indicate a worn interface, an incorrect system size or damaged locking parts. For J250, the correct combination of tooth tip, adapter design, locking bore and locking parts is particularly relevant.

Locking for CAT® J250: 8E6258 and 8E6259

For side locking of the J250 tooth tip, the LIS® range includes the locking pin or lock pin 8E6258 and the retainer 8E6259. Both components are technical connection parts and must match the existing J250 interface.

Locking pin and retainer should be checked together with the adapter interface whenever a tooth is replaced. Worn locking parts, damaged bores or play at the tooth tip can affect the connection between tooth and adapter.

Distinction from J225 and J300

CAT® J250 sits between smaller J225 components and larger J300 sizes. The systems cannot be reliably distinguished by tooth shape or bucket size alone. Reference number, adapter interface, locking bore and the corresponding locking parts are decisive.

If the existing interface is smaller or the reference does not match the J250 size, CAT® J225 may be relevant. If the adapter interface is larger, the locking geometry differs or matching J300 references are present, CAT® J300 should be checked.

Check before ordering

  • Which reference number is visible on the existing tooth, adapter or locking part?
  • Is the existing interface clearly designed for CAT® J250?
  • Does the tooth profile match the application: short, long, penetration, sharp, double spike, Rock Chisel, Heavy Duty, Abrasion or wide?
  • Is the adapter worn, loose or damaged at the weld-on area?
  • Are locking pin 8E6258 and retainer 8E6259 available in a version suitable for the existing J250 interface?
  • For adapters: do lip thickness, base edge and bevel angle match the adapter design?

LIS® cutting tools are covered by the lifetime breakage warranty in accordance with the LIS® warranty terms. Normal material wear is excluded; the applicable warranty terms are decisive.
