CAT® J300: tooth profiles, adapter designs and locking
CAT® J300 is an individual size within the side-locking CAT® J-System. The tooth tip is pushed onto a matching J300 adapter interface and secured by a side locking configuration. Reference number, tooth profile, adapter design, locking bore and the condition of the existing interface are decisive for correct selection.
J300 bucket teeth, J300 tooth adapters and locking parts must match the same system size. For size comparison within the system, refer to CAT® J-System; other tooth systems are grouped under Teeth and Tooth Systems.
Selecting J300 tooth tips by reference and application profile
For CAT® J300, the tooth profile is a key selection criterion. J300 tooth designs differ in length, penetration behaviour, cutting width, wear volume and application profile. The decisive factor is the combination of reference number, profile and existing J300 adapter interface.
- 1U3301: short J300 tooth tip when a shorter design is required compared with long profiles
- 1U3302: long J300 tooth tip for general digging and loading applications
- 9J4309: sharp or penetration profile for compacted or hard-to-penetrate materials

The terms bucket tooth, tooth tip, excavator tooth and loader tooth are used differently in the market. For technical identification within J300, reference number, tooth profile, adapter interface and matching locking parts are decisive.
J300 tooth adapters: checking design and interface
J300 tooth adapters form the interface between the bucket lip or base edge and the tooth tip. Adapter selection is based on bucket lip, base edge, position on the tool and existing interface. Depending on the setup, Flush Mount adapters, double-strap adapters and left or right corner adapters are used.
Relevant J300 adapter references include 1U1304, 3G4308, 3G4309, 3G6304 and 4T4307. Before installation, lip thickness, base edge, bevel angle, welding situation and wear condition of the existing interface should be checked.
Play between tooth tip and adapter can indicate a worn interface, an incorrect system size or damaged locking parts. For J300, the correct combination of tooth tip, adapter design, locking bore and locking parts is decisive.
Locking for CAT® J300: locking pin 9J2308
For side locking of the J300 tooth tip, the locking pin 9J2308 is relevant. The locking pin is a technical connection part between tooth tip and adapter interface and must match the existing locking bore.
When replacing a tooth, locking pin, matching retainer and adapter interface should be checked together. Worn locking parts, damaged bores or play at the tooth tip can affect the connection between tooth and adapter.
Distinction from J250 and J350
CAT® J300 sits between smaller J250 components and larger J350 sizes. The systems cannot be reliably distinguished by tooth shape or bucket size alone. Reference number, adapter interface, locking bore and the corresponding locking parts are decisive.
If the existing interface is smaller or the reference does not match the J300 size, CAT® J250 may be relevant. If the adapter interface is larger, the locking geometry differs or matching J350 references are present, CAT® J350 should be checked.
Check before ordering
- Which reference number is visible on the existing tooth, adapter or locking part?
- Is the existing interface clearly designed for CAT® J300?
- Does the tooth profile match the application: short, long, penetration, sharp, double spike, Rock Chisel, Rock Loader, Heavy Duty, Abrasion or wide?
- Is the adapter worn, loose or damaged at the weld-on area?
- Does the locking pin 9J2308 match the existing locking bore?
- For adapters: do lip thickness, base edge and bevel angle match the adapter design?
