LIS® Replacement Parts for the CAT® J300 Tooth System

The global industry standard for 15- to 25-ton excavators and medium wheel loaders.
The J300 system is arguably the best-selling and most recognized size within the CAT® J-Series. Bucket teeth and adapters are part of the Ground Engaging Tools (GET).

  • Machine Class: Medium excavators and wheel loaders (approx. 15–25 t, e.g., CAT 315, 318, 320, 938, 950)
  • Locking Mechanism: Horizontal locking (side-pin) with Ø 14 mm pin (Length: 93 mm)
  • Warranty: Lifetime breakage warranty* on LIS® teeth and adapters

System Differentiation: The J300 Size

The J300 size is the absolute core system of the J-Series. It is significantly more massive than the J250 and optimally designed for the medium weight class before jumping to the heavy mining systems (from J350 upwards).

Tooth tips, adapters, and locking parts are only compatible within the J300 size.

Technical Identification: Is it really J300?

Since the J300 profile is a widely used industry standard (also installed on many third-party buckets), the size must be determined exactly. Use these reference values for identification on the old part:

  • 1. Typical J300 Part Numbers (Cast Numbers):
Common reference numbers for J300 tooth points end in "...302" (e.g., the global standard tooth 1U-3302 or the rock tooth 1U-3302RC).
  • 2. Adapter Nose Dimension (Inch Rule):
As a rough technical guide, the thickness of the adapter nose for the J300 size is approx. 3.0 inches (approx. 76 mm).
  • 3. Dimensions of J300 Locking Elements:
The J300 locking pin (e.g., reference number 9J-2308) has a diameter of Ø approx. 14.0 mm and a length of approx. 93.0 mm. (Attention: The pin of the smaller J250 system measures only 80 mm with the same diameter!).

Workshop Hint: Change teeth in time, protect adapters

A bucket tooth must be changed before the wear reaches the bucket adapter. If the tooth cap is worn through, the rock rubs directly against the adapter. A damaged or worn adapter leads to massive play. The consequence: The entire leverage force acts on the locking pin, resulting in immediate pin breakage and tooth loss. A timely tooth change prevents expensive welding work on the adapter.

Tooth Shapes and Adapters for Excavators and Wheel Loaders

The J300 tooth system offers the right penetration power for every soil. The choice of tooth shape depends on the soil type and abrasion:

  • Standard / Long (e.g., 1U-3302): The universal choice for mixed earthmoving and classic trenching applications.
  • Penetration / Tiger: For hard, compacted soils where penetration power is the priority.
  • Rock (RC) / Abrasion: Reinforced versions for heavy-wear applications (quartz, gravel, rock).

To optimally equip the cutting tool, LIS® carries various adapter designs in the J300 segment:

  • Two-Strap Adapters (Center & Corner Adapters): Predominantly used on excavator buckets. They enclose the cutting edge, offering maximum stability during breakout.
  • Flush-Mount Adapters (Single-Strap): Frequently used on wheel loader buckets to ensure a smooth bucket underside for clean grading work.

System Comparison: Alternatives to the J-System

Besides the CAT J-Series, other high-performance tooth systems are used in the market. If your machine is not equipped with the J300 side-pin locking mechanism, you will find these established alternatives at LIS®:

What you should check before ordering

To avoid incorrect orders and machine downtime, please verify the following points:

  • Is the stamp "J300" or a known part number (e.g., 1U-3302) legible on the old part?
  • Is the adapter nose approx. 76 mm (3.0 inches) thick and the pin Ø approx. 14 mm (Length 93 mm)?
  • Have you added completely new locking elements (pin & retainer) to your cart? (Old retainers lead to tooth loss!)

If you are unsure, the LIS® technical sales team will be happy to assist you at any time.
