Mikropor Air Filter Systems
A Mikropor air filter system is a two-stage complete air filtration system for construction equipment, designed with application-based system selection, variable housing configurations and integrated pre-separation for different installation conditions and operating environments.
These systems are part of the complete air filters within construction equipment air filters and are categorized under filters for construction equipment.

System Classification
Mikropor air filter systems are used in excavators, wheel loaders, agricultural machinery and industrial applications where defined intake air filtration under varying operating conditions is required.
In contrast to series-based filter systems, Mikropor solutions are selected based on application-specific design criteria, including airflow rate, available installation space, connection geometry and dust load.
These systems are used particularly when no fixed series-based system solution is required, but instead a filtration system adapted to the machine and operating environment is needed.
Two-Stage Filtration and Airflow Design
Mikropor systems operate as two-stage air filtration systems. In the first stage, intake air is guided into a rotational flow through the housing geometry, allowing particles to be separated by centrifugal force.
Dust discharge is handled via an integrated dust ejector valve (rubber valve / dust valve), enabling continuous removal of separated contaminants from the system.
The second stage provides fine filtration through the filter element. The airflow design ensures even loading of the filter media and reduces localized stress within the filter.
At the same time, Mikropor housings are engineered for low pressure drop (Δp), reducing intake resistance and supporting overall engine efficiency.
Housing Variants and Material Design
Mikropor air filter systems are available in two main housing types:
- MAFH series: glass fiber reinforced polyamide (PA6), corrosion-free, vibration-resistant and UV-stabilized, temperature resistance depending on model up to approx. 80 °C
- MIFH series: powder-coated metal housing for increased mechanical strength and temperature resistance depending on model up to approx. 120 °C (seal-dependent)
Polymer housings provide advantages in weight reduction, corrosion resistance and vibration damping, while metal housings are designed for mechanically demanding applications and higher temperature ranges.
System Variants and Nomenclature
The product designations provide direct information about system configuration and are frequently used in spare parts and system identification:
- MAFH / MIFH: housing type (polymer or metal)
- Numerical code: size and performance range
- A / B / C: housing geometry and outlet configuration
- S: version with integrated safety element
Systems with the “S” suffix are typically supplied as complete units including primary and safety filter elements, reducing the risk of incorrect ordering.
Applications and System Logic
Mikropor air filter systems are used when an application-based filtration solution for varying operating conditions is required.
Typical applications include:
- Construction equipment (excavators, wheel loaders)
- Agricultural machinery
- Industrial equipment
- Off-highway applications
The systems are designed for medium to demanding dust conditions and allow flexible integration into different machine concepts.
Positioning within the Manufacturer Cluster
Within the complete air filters category, Mikropor systems are positioned alongside Donaldson air filter systems and MANN+HUMMEL air filter systems.
Mikropor is typically selected when a technically equivalent system solution for existing machine concepts is required and an application-driven selection approach is preferred.
System Environment and Maintenance
Mikropor air filter systems are part of the construction equipment air filters and operate with suitable air filter elements.
Many systems include ports for restriction indicators, enabling accurate monitoring of filter condition and optimized maintenance intervals.
Maintenance is carried out by replacing the filter elements. Systems with integrated safety elements provide additional protection of the intake system during servicing.
Pre-Order Verification
Before ordering, system configuration, reference number, machine model and operating conditions must be verified.
