Air Filter Elements for Construction Equipment

Air filter elements are replaceable components in intake air systems and determine the filtration of combustion air during operation.

Selection is based exclusively on part number, design and sealing system of the existing air filter system – not on machine type or application.

Selection by part number and system matching

The part number is the key identification parameter in the spare parts business. It ensures that airflow, sealing geometry and installation fit exactly match the existing air intake system.

Incorrect matching leads to poor sealing, improper fit or airflow deviations from the intended system design.

Primary filters, safety filters and service kits

  • Primary filters: perform the main filtration of intake air during operation
  • Safety filters: protect the clean side during maintenance or in case of primary filter failure
  • Service kits: matched combinations of primary and safety elements

Primary and safety elements are system-specific and must be matched correctly. They are not interchangeable across different filter systems.

Design and sealing systems

  • Radial seal: sealing via radial contact, suitable for vibration-intensive environments
  • Axial seal: sealing via end-face compression with defined contact pressure
  • Design types: round elements, cartridge types and system-specific configurations

Design and sealing system determine the correct fit within the housing. Visually similar elements may differ in sealing concept and are not interchangeable.

System integration and application environment

Air filter elements are part of complete air filter systems and operate in combination with housings, pre-cleaners and service indicators.

They are used across construction equipment, agricultural machinery, compressors and stationary engines. Selection is always based on the intake system – not the machine itself.

Typical misapplications in practice

  • Part number: incorrect element for the existing system
  • Design: element does not fit the housing
  • Sealing system: improper sealing or leakage
  • System matching: primary and safety elements mixed incorrectly

Incorrect selection results in leakage, increased wear or insufficient filtration performance.

Position within the air filtration system

Air filter elements are directly related to complete air filters and associated air filter accessories.

System performance depends on the correct interaction of all components.
