Bucket Teeth & Tooth Adapters Suitable for CAT® J700

For the CAT® J700 tooth system, the tooth tip, tooth adapter and retention parts must be checked together. The reference number, tooth profile, adapter geometry, retention geometry and condition of the existing interface are decisive for technical identification.

Correct technical identification of CAT® J700 components

CAT® J700 is a separate size within the side-pin-retained CAT® J-System. The tooth tip, tooth adapter and retention parts must correspond to the same system size, adapter interface and retention geometry.

The machine designation alone is not sufficient for identification because buckets and adapter interfaces may have been modified or fitted with a different system. The reference number on the existing component, the adapter interface and the retention geometry provide the starting point for identification.

Confirmed reference numbers for J700 identification

The following table contains confirmed public reference numbers relevant to the current LIS® J700 allocation. It is not a complete CAT® parts catalogue.

Tooth profiles in the current LIS® J700 range

The current LIS® J700 allocation includes the Long / General Purpose, Long Rock Chisel, Rock Loader and Penetration profiles. Reference 4T-4702 is assigned to the long General Purpose design. Reference 4T-4709 identifies the Penetration design.

Long Rock Chisel is a long chisel-shaped profile for rocky working conditions. Rock Loader describes a loading-oriented design within the current LIS® J700 range. No additional manufacturer reference numbers are stated for these two profiles in this category text.

The tooth profile must be selected according to the material, working task, required penetration behaviour and existing adapter interface. External tooth shape alone is not sufficient for technical identification.

Selecting J700 tooth adapters for the existing installation

J700 tooth adapters form the connection between the bucket lip or base edge and the tooth tip. Selection is based on the installation position, bucket-lip thickness, bevel angle, adapter geometry and existing interface.

Reference 4T-4704 is listed in the current LIS® J700 range as a two-strap adapter for the corresponding bucket-lip design. An LIS® heavy-duty two-strap version is also available. The two designs must not be treated as interchangeable solely because both are assigned to J700.

The bucket-lip thickness must be measured at an area that is as undeformed and unworn as possible. The base-edge geometry, existing bevel angle, intended weld position and condition of the weld area must also be checked.

Visual similarity or the J700 size designation alone is not sufficient for adapter selection.

Checking the adapter nose, seating surfaces and pin bore

If movement is present at the tooth tip, the adapter nose, seating surfaces and pin bore must be checked together. A worn adapter can cause movement or incomplete seating even when a new tooth tip is fitted.

Damaged seating surfaces, a deformed pin bore or pronounced wear on the adapter nose can impair the seating and retention of the tooth tip. In this case, the interface must be technically assessed before further use.

Retention parts within the LIS® J700 allocation

The current LIS® J700 range includes the locking pin and retainer as separate components. Reference number 4T-4707 is confirmed for the retainer.

Before ordering, compare the reference number on the existing retention part, the bore geometry and the combination of locking pin and retainer. Different J700 retention variants must not be treated as interchangeable solely on the basis of the system size.

The locking pin and retainer must be checked together for wear, deformation and correct seating.

Distinguishing J700 from J600 and J800

J600, J700 and J800 are separate sizes within the CAT® J-System. Identification is based on the reference number, adapter interface and retention geometry.

Tooth shape, machine model or an approximate size comparison are not sufficient. Adjacent system sizes can be checked under CAT® J600 and CAT® J800.

  • Read the reference number on the tooth tip, tooth adapter and retention part
  • Confirm the J700 system size using the adapter interface and retention geometry
  • Select the tooth profile according to the material, working task and required penetration behaviour
  • For tooth adapters, check the bucket-lip thickness, bevel angle, installation position and weld area
  • Check the adapter nose, seating surfaces and pin bore for wear or damage
  • Check the locking pin and retainer as a matching retention combination
