LIS® Replacement Parts suitable for the CAT® J-Series Tooth System

The established system standard for excavators, wheel loaders, and bulldozers.
The J-System is a classic, three-piece bucket tooth system. It is recognized worldwide for its proven, horizontal locking mechanism (side-pin). LIS® carries precisely fitting replacement parts for almost all machine classes in earthmoving, civil engineering, and quarrying.

  • System Sizes: J200 to J800 as well as specific ripper applications
  • Locking: Horizontal locking via tooth pin and retaining ring (retainer)
  • Warranty: Lifetime breakage warranty* on LIS® teeth and adapters

System Sizes and Direct Selection

Tooth tips, adapters, and locking parts are only compatible within the exact same size. The differentiation is based on the actual system stamping on the component or the dimensions of the adapter nose, not generally on the excavator weight.

System Architecture: Changing Bucket Teeth with Side-Pin

The CAT J tooth system consists of three precisely matched wear parts (Ground Engaging Tools):

  1. Bucket Adapter: Permanently welded to the cutting edge. Features a lateral recess for the locking mechanism.
  2. Tooth Point: The bucket tooth, which slides form-fittingly onto the adapter.
  3. Tooth Locking: A steel pin with a groove and a compressible elastomer retaining ring (retainer).

Workshop Hint: Why do bucket teeth break?

The loss of a tooth tip is almost always due to assembly errors or wear. When changing a bucket tooth, please note:

  • Always use new locking parts: Old retainers lose their tension (fatigue). Consequence: Immediate tooth loss on the job site.
  • Check adapters: A worn bucket adapter causes play.
  • Risk of pin breakage: Due to the play, the leverage force is transferred directly to the tooth pin, inevitably leading to breakage.

Technical Identification: Which system do I have?

Use these three methods for identification on the old part:

1. Check Part Numbers:

Look for cast numbers on the old part.
Examples:

Endings with "...202" (e.g., 1U-3202) = J200.

Endings with "...302" (e.g., 1U-3302) = J300.

Endings with "...452" (e.g., 9W-8452) = J460.

2. Measure Adapter Nose (Inch Rule):

As a rough guide, the J-Series is derived from the thickness of the adapter nose. Approx. 3.0 inches (approx. 76 mm) indicates a J300 system.

3. Confirm Side-Pin:

There must be a lateral, horizontal bore.

Available Tooth Shapes for Every Application

The penetration performance of your excavator depends on the tooth geometry. LIS® carries the following profiles:

  • Standard (STD) & Long: Universal for earthmoving. Balanced wear volume.
  • Penetration / Pick (PT): Reduced frontal area. Ideal for hard, compacted soils and light rock.
  • Rock (RC): Reinforced geometry for extreme loads in quarries.
  • Twin Tiger (TW): Defined edge clearance. Often mounted as a corner tooth on digging buckets.
  • Heavy Duty / Abrasion (HD): Massive wear volume on the back of the tooth for sand, quartz, or gravel.

Special Applications and Adapter Concepts

To reflect the real product range in heavy earthmoving, LIS® also carries these components alongside classic bucket teeth:

  • Ripper Teeth: Specific tooth caps and adapters for rear rippers of heavy bulldozers (CAT D8 to D11).
  • Bolt-On Teeth: Directly bolt-on tooth caps (e.g., 6Y6335).
  • Two-Strap Adapters (Weld-on): The proven standard for excavator buckets (high stability).
  • Flush-Mount Adapters (Single-Strap): Welded flat. The standard for wheel loader buckets (smooth bucket underside).

LIS® Quality Promise: Lifetime Breakage Warranty

We know the extreme loads in earthmoving, civil engineering, and demolition. That is why we grant a lifetime breakage warranty* on all LIS® replacement parts (teeth and adapters) for the J-System. This fully covers all material and manufacturing defects. (*Note: Normal material wear is excluded. Our general warranty terms and conditions apply).

What you should check before ordering

Please verify before ordering:

  • Is the exact J-size (e.g., "J300") or part number known?
  • Is there a horizontal bore (side-pin)?
  • What cutting edge thickness is required for the new adapter?
  • Which tooth shape fits the current soil (e.g., Standard or Rock)?

If you are unsure, the LIS® technical sales team will be happy to assist you.
