Mechanical Tilt Quick Couplers with MS Mount (Manual Locking)

Tilt quick couplers with hydraulic rotary drive and mechanical tool locking.
A tilt quick coupler with an MS mount combines the manual locking of the attachment via a socket wrench with the tilt function of a hydraulic rotary drive. The tilting of the attachment is controlled via the excavator's hydraulics, while the locking of the tool is executed mechanically.

In the LIS® range, you will find mechanical quick couplers and mechanically locked tilt couplers for excavators from 0.8 to 30 tons.

  • Locking Mechanism: Mechanical (manual tool change via socket wrench)
  • Rotary Drive: Hydraulic (180° for excavators up to 23 t / 134° for excavators from 23 to 30 t)
  • Construction: Mechanically locked quick coupler with a reduced system complexity in the locking area

System Differentiation: Application profile of mechanical MS tilt couplers

Mechanical tilt couplers with an MS mount are designed for applications where attachments remain on the machine for extended work cycles and tool changes are performed deliberately and manually.

The locking of the tool operates without hydraulic components. The rotary drive operates independently via a separate hydraulic control circuit.

Typical Operating Conditions:

  • Manual tool changes with low change frequency
  • Standardized attachments such as digging buckets or ditch cleaning buckets
  • Simple system design in the locking area

→ Frequent tool changes in daily operations?
For tool changes directly from the cabin, we recommend HS tilt quick couplers with hydraulic locking.

Size Matrix: Machine Class, Mount Size, and Torque

The selection of a tilt coupler is based on the combination of machine class, existing mounting geometry, and the technical approvals of the respective model. Machine weight alone is not a sufficient selection criterion.

  • Size 01 (MS01): Typically for 0.8–3 t (Torque: approx. 900 Nm)
  • Size 03 (MS03): Typically for 2–8 t (Torque: approx. 900–3,200 Nm)
  • Size 08 (MS08): Typically for 5–15 t (Torque: approx. 3,200–7,000 Nm)
  • Size 10 (MS10): Typically for 8–23 t, depending on model and mount
  • Size 21 & 25 (MS21 / MS25): Typically for 15–30 t, depending on system configuration

Workshop Hint: Hydraulic Control

Even with mechanical tool locking, the rotary drive requires a free auxiliary control circuit on the excavator. The required values for pressure, oil flow, and connection layout are model-dependent and can be found in the technical data of the respective product.

Matching Attachments and Conversion Components

For the use of mechanical MS tilt couplers and the conversion of existing attachments, LIS® provides the appropriate components:

Checkpoints before selection and retrofitting

Before selecting a mechanical tilt coupler, the following points must be checked:

  • Mounting Geometry: Does the MS mount (e.g., MS03) exactly match the existing attachments?
  • Machine Class: Is the tilt coupler approved for the operating weight and operating conditions?
  • Hydraulics: Is a suitable auxiliary control circuit available for the rotary drive?

If you have any questions regarding system selection or technical compatibility, the LIS® technical sales team is ready to assist you.
